Les deux guitares

Les deux guitares

Tradicional russian gypsy song performed by Les Yeux Noirs

Les deux guitares
Dve gitari zazvenev
Jalobno zanily
S detstva pamjatnij motiv,
Drug ljubimiy, ti ly?

eh, raz, eshe raz,
Eshe mnogo mnogo raz,
Eh, raz, eshe raz,
Eshe mnogo mnogo raz!

Vot tam zvezda odna gorit
Tak jarko i muchitel’no
Luchami serdtse shevelyt,
Draznja evo jazvitel’no

eh, raz, eshe raz,
Eshe mnogo mnogo raz,
Eh, raz, eshe raz,
Eshe mnogo mnogo raz!

I ot zari, I do zari
Toskuju, muchus’, set’ju.
Dai, boje, mne dogovorit’
Tu pesnju nedopetuju…

eh, raz, eshe raz,
Eshe mnogo mnogo raz,
Eh, raz, eshe raz,
Eshe mnogo mnogo raz!

V polet veter, ogon’ky,
Da dal’naja doroga.
Noet serdtse ot toski,
A na dushe trevoga.

eh, raz, eshe raz,
Eshe mnogo mnogo raz,
Eh, raz, eshe raz,
Eshe mnogo mnogo raz!

V pole maki, da vasil’ki.
Vse oni mne ljubi.
Vasil’ki- glaza ee,
A maki- ee gubi.

eh, raz, eshe raz,
Eshe mnogo mnogo raz,
Eh, raz, eshe raz,
Eshe mnogo mnogo raz!

Chto ti noesh, da bolish,
Retivo serdechko,
Ja uvidel u nee
Da na ruke kolechko

eh, raz, eshe raz,
Eshe mnogo mnogo raz,
Eh, raz, eshe raz,
Eshe mnogo mnogo raz!

  1. THANK YOU so much for this listing with the English translation. I first heard Two Guitars about 35-40 years ago – performed by Ivan Rebroff. It i a wonderful song and now I have these lyrics, with the English translation, I will be able to sing … and understand !!

This is a fantastic site. I have loved Roma music since i was old enough to hear it -a long, log time and I became very interested in Roma culture a few years ago. THANK YOU again, to all contributors.

Music unites us – regardless of nation, race, colour ..or any other ‘difference’ that some like to use to divide us -> We are the one Human Race.

    Love,Peace,Light and Joy to all

  2. Yeah, that’s wrong translation. It’s of Vysotsky song “In my dream – yellow lights” aka “My Gypsy [song]”. Same music and refrain, but verses are completely different from this song. “Two guitars” are not as famous in Russia as Vysotsky’ song, so translations are probably scarce.

    • Hi RandomLad, you are totally right. Do you know if this one is correct?

Two gypsies, without break strum their guitars,
Reviving in the depth of night all of my memory,
Not knowing that through me rolls a stream of distress,
They give rebirth with their fingers to my crazy youth.

      Chorus: 2x
      Gypsy
      And once. One more time
      Many many more times

Play gypsies, play for me with {your two} flames
To drown the voice that says to my soul:
Oh, are you sick? Why {are you deceased}?
      Your head hurts, but,
      Drink a little less today
      You’ll drink more tomorrow
And even more the day after tomorrow

      (chorus) x2

I want to laugh, I want to sing
      And drink away my pain
To forget the past that I drag with me
Come on, bring me some strong wine
      For the wine delivers
Oh pour, pour me another one
      So i’ll get drunk

      (chorus) x2

Two guitars upon my thought thrust an immense trouble
Explaining to me the vanity of our existence
What do we live? Why do we live?
What is the meaning of live?
You are alive today, you’ll be dead tomorrow
And the day after tomorrow still

      (chorus) x2

      When I’m dead drunk
      Feeble and pitiful
And you see my body roll under the table, well…
Then you can quit your songs that ring
      But meanwhile play
      Play, I order you
