Diri, Diri, So Kerdjan

Diri, Diri, So Kerdjan

Song by Romanyi Rota

Diri, Diri, So Kerdjan

Haj tu Diri Diri Diri Diri so kerdjan,
čhorra romnya, čhorra romnya mudardjan?

“Naslyi voj laši, ke na čumidjasman, avresa voj gilyastar.”

Haj tu Diri Diri Diri Diri Diri,
čhorra romnya, mudardjan, e šukara.

“Muri romnyi sas aba šukar, mudardjomla, te na žal mandar.
Devla, Devla, bunyinav aba, jaj te merav, so me kerdjom murra romnyasa.

Haj romale, haj šavale, šunen aba so pecisajlem?”

Translation:

Hey you, Diri Diri Dir Diri, how can it be?
How can it be that you killed your poor wife?

“She wasn’t good to me, she didn’t even kiss me. In the end she left me for someone else.”

Hey you, Diri Diri Dir Diri Diri,
you killed your wife, the pretty one!

“My wife was beautiful, I killed her, so she wouldn’t be unfaithful. Oh dear God,

I am so sorry for what I have done to my wife.

Hey Gypsies, hey boys, tell me how this could have happened?

    • Actually I am! I got a job in London to survive in one of the most expensive cities in the world and I arrive home everyday exhausted :S
But they gave me 8 days of holyday (starting today) so I hope now I can have the time to put some more lyrics! 🙂

  1. Woohoo 🙂 Enjoy your holidays!

How’s the Gipsy music scene in Lon? Any good parties to dance to? In Ams I used to dance my ass off to gipsy- & Balkan- tunes every week about 3/4 yrs ago but now it’s simply not hip anymore and there’s not enough good parties anymore… I’m kind of fed up with the electronic music and seriously considering getting some Balkan artists to Ams to play for me & organise a good party..

  2. I would love to know the English translation. I can’t find one anywhere on the web. I understand it is about a jealous lover?

  3. The language is Romani, but this language is not on Google translate. If it was, you could translate it to English in this way. I have also tried different online glossaries and directionaries for the language, but many of them does not contain all the Words.

  4. The text and translation is in the CD-booklet of the Romanyi Rota CD FA-050-2 1999 Fóno Records Budapest. It goes like this:

Haj tu Diri Diri Diri Diri so kerdjan, čhorra romnya, čhorra romnya mudardjan?
