Duj Duj

Standard

Duj Duj

Duj,duj, duj, duj dešuduj,
tečumi da, tečumi da parnomuj.
O parnomuj čumi da dere kostar astarap,
šajľage, šajľage astarap.

Dva a dva a dvadsať krát,
chcel ma milý, chcel ma milý pobozkať
na moje obe líčka, červené jak ružička,
vymaľované od slniečka.

Dva a dva a dvadsať krát,
chcel ma milý, chcel ma milý zanechať,
[:pobozkal ma na líčko a pošepkal tichúčko,
ľúbim ťa ty moje srdiečko.

*I’m sorry I couldn’t find the Romani version, That´s all I’ve got:

Dui, dui, dui dui
Desh-u-shtar-war dui
Te chumidel. te chumidel parno mui
Ánda láte me meráva
Ánda láte pharruváva
Yoi, Dále, nai nai nai

isi mánde chaiyorri
ísi mánde, isi mánde shukarni
Ánda láte me meráva
Ánda láte pharruváva
Yoi, Dále, nai, nai, nai

(Thanks papi divio)

About gypsylyrics

This blog is for everyone who loves Roma culture, music and dances. I'm not an expert, just an admirer who wants to share her passion. This blog wouldn't been possible without the Danza Duende project in my life. Thanks to my Gypsy Duende masters to teach me all I know.

  1. Remember my grandma from Prague…my grandpa was one of the first casualties, died for seine kaiserliche Majestaet Franciscus Josephus …der Frantisek. my father was a newborn Oh what pain this world endured How many tears from all the peoples ….and their music, so intense as if to deaden the pain

  2. Hello!

The more correct and fuller lyrics of this version of the song are:

    1.
    Duj,duj, duj, duj dešuduj,
te čumidav, te čumidav parno muj.
[:O parnomuj čumidav dere kostar astarap,
    šarlagi,šarlagi astarap.:]

    2.
Dva a dva a dvacať krát,
chcel ma milý, chcel ma milý poboskať
[:na moje obé líčka, červené jak ružička,
    vymaľované od slniečka.:]

    3.
Dva a dva a dvacať krát,
chcel ma milý, chcel ma milý zanechať,
[:poboskal ma na líčko a pošepkal tichúčko,
    ľúbim ťa ty moje srdiečko.:]

    4.
Dva a dva a dvacať krát,
    nesmie milý, nesmie milý zabúdať
[:že jeho čierne očka, moje červené líčka
    zaviažu naše dve srdiečka.:]

    ***

The first strophe is actually in Romani, and the translation of the first two strings will be:

    Two, two, twenty two
    Kiss, kiss white lips

(“white” = “pure” here, i guess)

And I don’t know about the last two strings.

Then there is the Czech text. If you want the translation of this Czech version, i’ll try translate it later.

As far as I understood, it is a really popular song, so it has many different versions of the lyrics, in Romani, and in Hungarian, and in Czech. So you won’t found a “canonical” version of the lyrics, therefore I suppose that this version isn’t worse than the others.

  3. Does anyone know about the song “Wiazanka Melodii i Tancow Cyganskich” performed by The Rayfer Sisters? It shares some music and lyrcs with this song, but is different.

  4. 2.
Dva a dva a dvacať krát, two and two and twenty times
chcel ma milý, chcel ma milý poboskať my dear(meant lover, sweetheart) wanted to kiss me
[:na moje obé líčka, červené jak ružička, both my cheeks, red like rose
vymaľované od slniečka.:] colored by the sun

    3.
Dva a dva a dvacať krát, two and two and twenty times
chcel ma milý, chcel ma milý zanechať, my dear wanted to leave me
[:poboskal ma na líčko a pošepkal tichúčko, he kissed my cheek, whispered silently
ľúbim ťa ty moje srdiečko.:] i love you, my little heart

    4.
Dva a dva a dvacať krát, two and two and twenty times
nesmie milý, nesmie milý zabúdať my dear can´t, he can´t forget
[:že jeho čierne očka, moje červené líčka that his black eyes, my red cheeks
zaviažu naše dve srdiečka.:] tie our two hearts (meant tie together)

  5. This song has been popularised by Karel Gott, a star popsinger from Prag back in seventies. At that time he introduced as musicians Brothers Gondolánovci, a gypsy group.
I wish that their song “Bečľa ečhaj” may find its place in your list of good gypsy music.

      • Hey I couldn’t find this song, the only video + lyrics I could find by one of Brothers Gondolánovci was a version of Bašav mange. It’s a good addition for the blog though, thanks!
